Building regulations across England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland mandate that all new buildings or extensions in "Radon Affected Areas" must incorporate protective measures during construction. According to government and BRE maps, few regions in the UK are free from this requirement.

Traditionally, measuring the permeability of radon through building materials has been a slow, complex, and costly process. This new service can accurately measure the critical radon flow rate through both individual building materials and complex multi-layer structural elements.

The Building Regulations 2000 (England and Wales), the Building (Scotland) Regulations 2004, and Building Regulations Northern Ireland (as amended 1990), supported by BRE reports BR211, BR376, and BR413, respectively, require that buildings and building extensions (workplaces and dwellings) constructed after 2000 in "Radon Affected Areas" have protective measures installed during construction.
